What Is THe SWAN RIVER RAILROAD?
Welcome to the Swan River Railroad. It is an HO Scale layout depicting operations in and around the Long Island Area including NYC and the Northeast Corridor. It is named for the Swan River that cuts through East Patchogue and connects Swan Lake to the Great South Bay. The Long Island RailRoad cuts through just a few hundred feet south of Montauk Highway with a scenic view in the Swan River Preserve.
The Swan River Railoard is a 3 layer shelf layout, in a "U" shape with helixes on the ends. The lowest layer represents Manhattan with its famous Penn Station and Subways. The middle layer represents Queens and the Northeast Corridor taking inspiration of the massive Sunnyside Yard complex. Finally, the top-most layer represents Long Island as the trains wander to the east end through places like Babylon, Ronkonkoma, Patchogue and Montauk.
You'll find a mix various eras running depending on the day. Some folks are into the Steam and pre-1960's. Others of us love the latest and fastest. Some are nostalgic for the trains that were running when we grew up. Whether a GG1 on the NEC or a GP38-2 or a G5-s on the LIRR, you'll find passengers moving through the area coming and going to work or a nice dinner in Manhattan or to the beaches of Montauk. On the NEC you'll find Amtrak Acela's, ACS64's, HHP-8's and P32ACDM's, or NJT ALP-45DP's, as well as various MetroNorth trains.
